What is GRE?

The GRE test is the standardised test used to get admissions in various graduate schools or business graduate schools in various English speaking countries, especially the United States.

Who Takes It?

Graduate and business school applicants who are interested in pursuing a masters, specialized masters in business or doctoral degree take the GRE revised General Test.

Who Accepts It?

The GRE revised General Test is accepted at thousands of graduate and business schools as well as departments and divisions within these schools for admissions or fellowship.

Test Pattern

The most commonly used GRE test format is Computer-based. Paper-based format is available at test centres where Computer-based GRE test is not there. The total duration of the test is 3 hours 40 minutes. There are six sections and a 10-minute break is given after the third section during the examination.

GRE test Dates

The computer-based GRE Test is offered year-round at Prometric test centers. You can take the GRE Test once every 21 days, up to five times within a 12-month period. This applies even if you cancelled your scores on a test taken previously.

What are the two versions?

GRE is available in two formats.

  1. GRE General Test measures a candidate’s verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking and analytical writing skills.
  2. GRE Subject Test is focused on judging the candidate’s expertise in specific fields.

Validity

GRE scores are valid for 5 years.
