The redesigned SAT

The College Board has announced the launch of a new SAT from March 2016 onwards.

The major changes are:

  • No obscure vocabulary as the College Board website says, “No longer will students use flashcards to memorize obscure words, only to forget them the minute they put their test pencils down.”
  • Fewer answer choices; 4 rather than 5
  • 16 fewer questions than the current version
  • Total score 1,600 instead of 2,400
  • More time per section
  • No penalty for wrong answers
  • Essay turned optional and the time allotted is doubled
